NORA Tea

Ashley April 5, 2023     No Comment

We are often asked what supplements we recommend for pregnancy but every person’s diet and ailments are different and require an individualized food and supplement regimen. However, we always recommend NORA tea as everyone can benefit from the wealth of vitamins and nutrients in it.

What is NORA tea?

NORA tea is an acronym for the herbs Nettles, Oatstraw, Red Raspberry leaf and Alfalfa combined to nourish the body for pregnancy and beyond. These 4 super herbs combined together help to:

  • build up your immune system
  • prevent and alleviate hemorrhoids and varicosities
  • decrease blood pressure/hypertension
  • decrease anxiety and stress
  • prevent premature rupture of the membranes (PROM)
  • potentially shorten the length of your labor
  • reduce blood loss at birth
  • support breastmilk production
  • reduce muscle pain
  • prevent kidney and urinary tract infections
  • and so, so much more

Why tea instead of taking a synthetic vitamin supplement?

The best way to nourish your body is through real food. Yes, we can take lab made vitamins and most humans do. However, synthetic vitamins are not as bioavailable as real foods and can leave behind a negative impact on your body.

Nettle leaf

Nettle

Nettle tea is made from the leaves of the nettle plant found close to a water source like rivers, streams and lakes with lots of sunshine. It can also be found in abandoned lots and fields due to the nitrogen rich soil.

Nettle has been used as medicine for centuries because it is packed with vitamins A, C, D and K, the minerals potassium, iron and magnesium. Nettles is also packed full of chlorophyll, serotonin and tannin (which helps your blood clot and reduces blood pressure). Nettle is great for many pregnancy ailments such as low iron, low platelets, magnesium deficiency, restless legs and anxiety.

Yes, anxiety! Nettle is a natural nervine meaning it helps you relax and reduces anxiety.

Nettle can also help relieve allergies, urinary tract infections, bladder infections, strengthen the adrenals and kidneys, reduce hypertension, reduce colds and flu and has an anti-fungal effect.

Oat straw

Oatstraw

Oatstraw is the stalk of the oat plant that the oats you eat for breakfast and in cookies comes from. However, the oats are not ripe when the stalk is harvested. Oatstraw has a long history of being used as a medicine and for good reason as it is a nervine and full of minerals.

Oatstraw is full of proteins, Vitamin B, silica, calcium, magnesium, zinc, silicon, alkaloids, potassium and iron.

This is a strong anxiety reducing tonic supports the nervous system, relieving feelings of depression, exhaustion, and fatigue. Oatstraw also reduces blood pressure, helps your body to regulate and balance its own hormone production, helps tone the uterus, strengthen the thyroid, reduces/prevents varicose veins and hemorrhoids.

It also helps you sleep! Nearly everyone complains of lack of sleep in pregnancy.

Raspberry plant

Red Raspberry Leaf

The raspberry plant is a member of the rose family and is grown in many parts of the world. This plant prefers sunny areas and can grow in many places such as open fields, next to water sources, the edge of forests or along your sidewalk. Washington is the top producer of this herb in the US.

Red Raspberry Leafs are full of Vitamins A, B, C, and E, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc and has one of the highest herbal sources of manganese.

It is well known that Red Raspberry Leaf helps to tone the uterus, reduce menstrual cramps and aid in uterine health. Studies have also shown that drinking this herb can reduce the length of labor, reduce the rate of cesarean section an instance of premature rupture of the membranes. It also helps to prevent excessive bleeding, increase breastmilk production and prevent kidney and urinary tract infection.

Alfalfa plant

Alfalfa

Alfalfa is originally from the area now known as Iran. Before it was widely grown for medicinal purposes it nourished animals grazing on it in fields.

Alfalfa contains Vitamins A, B6, C, D, E and K, iron, calcium, folate, magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur, chlorine, sodium, potassium, silicon, copper, and essential amino acids. This powerful herb also contains the highest content of chlorophyll and is widely used in chlorophyll supplements.

Alfalfa is widely used to balance blood sugar, help the digestive tract run smoothly so you can go to the bathroom easier, balance intestinal flora, reduces inflammation, boosts the immune system, and helps the body gently detox the body through healthy kidney function. It aids in respiratory health and is widely used to help treat the flu, bronchitis and the common cold.
