Chiropractic Care in Pregnancy, Labor, and Postpartum

Ashley Vann May 20, 2026     No Comment

Many families choose to include chiropractic care as part of their support team during pregnancy and postpartum. Chiropractic adjustments are focused on supporting the nervous system, improving balance within the body, and promoting comfort and mobility as your body changes throughout pregnancy and birth.

How Chiropractic Care Supports Pregnancy

Your nervous system communicates with and controls all cells, tissues, and organs in your body. A doctor of chiropractic works with the nervous system to promote the best communication and results possible. Your chiropractor will work with other members of your team to create a support network with you and your baby’s best interest as a priority.

A chiropractor certified in the Webster Technique® is advisable. This is a chiropractic technique which specifically balances the sacrum and round ligaments, allowing a breech baby the best opportunity to turn itself naturally.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care Before, During, and After Pregnancy

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is considered safe and effective and may help support overall comfort and function throughout the childbearing year.

Potential benefits include:

  • Aids in optimal communication between your body and your baby
  • Helps balance your center of gravity as your body shape changes
  • May reduce or eliminate pain, especially low back pain and sciatica
  • Improved sleep and rest
  • Increased energy
  • Better ability to handle stress and hormonal changes
  • Supports balanced digestion and elimination, especially heartburn and constipation

Chiropractic Care During Labor

Adjustments are considered safe in all stages of labor and statistics show labor times may be decreased with regular chiropractic care (greater than 33%).

Additional potential benefits during labor include:

  • Increased ability to relax
  • Improved pelvic and sacral balance and mobility
  • Malposition of baby may often correct itself before or during labor with adjustments
  • Reduced chance of needing traditional medical intervention
  • Increased chance of a successful VBAC

Postpartum Chiropractic Care

Adjustments are safe and recommended after delivery as well.

Potential postpartum benefits include:

  • Minimized discomfort
  • Promotion of healing and recovery

How to Find a Pregnancy Chiropractor

You can often find a trusted chiropractor through recommendations from people you know, including your midwife or doula.
